Favorite Scene Friday! The Room: "Oh hi, Mark!"

In honor of its recent release on Blu-ray (which I just noticed is out of stock on Amazon.com - seriously?), this week’s scene is from the terrible yet somehow awesome flick, The Room.

Why the HELL are his eyes so squinty?
I probably don’t need to discuss the actual movie, as it’s a bit of a phenomenon at this point. The 2003 film - written, directed, and produced by “star” Tommy Wiseau (who supposedly funded the movie by...selling leather jackets...) - has resulted in a video game and live reenactments by Wiseau himself.

Our scene begins when our greasy-haired hero Johnny (Wiseau) bursts onto the roof of his apartment building where his “best friend” Mark (Greg Sestero) is hanging out. Johnny is ranting to himself that his fiance future wife Lisa’s claims that he hit her are lies. It’s pretty much the film in a nutshell. Horrible production, bizarre lines, and terrible acting.

The scene is awesome on so many levels. Sestero’s delivery of the line “I’m just sittin’ up here thinkin’,” always makes me chuckle. Johnny apparently finds Mark’s story about beating a woman HILARIOUS. Johnny’s oversized blue coat/cargo pants combo is quite stylish. And finally, EVERYTHING Wiseau says and how he says it is hilarious, especially “Yeah,” and “What’s bovering you, Mark?”

Enjoy your weekend, and if you’re not sure how to do that, pick up The Room on Blu-ray, shut the blinds, and take a drink of your favorite booze every time Wiseau makes you laugh. Oh, and Happy New Year!

    1. Alex - Completely insane. Sometimes I wonder what would happen if Spielberg or Tarantino or Scorsese tried their hand at directing these two guys.
