Favorite Scene Friday!: Our Idiot Brother

 "It's been a hard week."

It wasn't a big hit in the theaters, but Our Idiot Brother is a big hit in my heart. I love this movie. The main character Ned (Paul Rudd) is so carefree that you can't help but fall in love with him and even envy him just a little bit. Even when his life is in the shitter, Ned stays positive. It's a mindset more people, including myself, should consider. There are some days I would love to live like Ned, minus the crocs, but I gotta pay the bills.

If you haven't seen Our Idiot Brother, it's a quirky little movie about Ned and his relationships with his three sisters, mother, ex-girlfriend and others. Not only is the movie entertaining, the cast is amazing: Rudd, Adam Scott, Elizabeth Banks, Rashida Jones, Emily Mortimer, Steve Coogan, Zooey Deschanel, Kathryn Hahn and T.J. Miller.

In today's scene, Ned is working at a fruit and vegetable stand when a police officer approaches. Ned, being the kind heart that he is, falls for an obvious example of entrapment. There is a line during this exchange "Roll it up, toke it up, do it up. Mary Jane", that reminds me of Chris Farley in Black Sheep when he is talking to the kids behind the convenient store. "Smokin', snortin', shootin', suckin', tokin', poppin', droppin," Man, Farley was a funny son of a bitch. Well I hope you had an excellent Friday and more importantly I hope you get an extra day like me.

  2. Even though this is the Rudd I like (for me he's best when he's playing an idiot or a bit of a jerk) I didn't love OIB. Although this scene is great.

    RIP in Farley.

    1. I agree. It was hit or miss for most people. I enjoyed it primarily because of Rudd. I thought Ned's simple outlook on life was refreshing. From here on out, rhubarb will never be just rhubarb.
