Favorite Scene Friday! Dirty Dancing: You're Wild!!!

Today I give you a scene from one of my favorite movies of all time.  I know this one is pretty much a chick-flick cliche, but I just can't help myself.

The scene actually begins at around the 0:52 mark of the video.  If you're not familiar with the story, Jennifer Grey's character, Baby, is vacationing with her parents in the Catskills in the summer of 1963.  Our Baby has a good head on her shoulders.  She's a devoted daddy's girl with a bright future.  But when she meets Patrick Swayze's Johnny, a bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks hired to teach dance lessons at the resort, everything changes.  Baby is forbidden from having anything to do with Johnny, but she's in love and she does it anyway.  In this scene, irritated and on edge from being cooped up for too long rehearsing for a dance Baby is filling in on, Johnny decides they need a break.  You'll see the rest.

The reason I love this scene is that it's full of pure joy.  Why do we typically do things we're not supposed to do?  Because it feels GOOD.  And Baby knows, in this moment, that she wouldn't trade being there with Johnny, this wild man who has totally changed her world, for anything.  When Robert and I saw the movie in the theatre recently (one of my top movie experiences), we both knew what I was talking about.  And if Patrick Swayze's grin doesn't convince you to love this scene, I don't know what will.

Happy Friday, friends!  Here's to being WIIILLLLLDDDD!!!

  1. I like the song playing in the background. It sounds a lot like the dearly departed Robert Palmer, but I found out that it is a guy named Zappacosta. That's wild!!
